A Simple Sparkle & Shine!

IMG_1290

Keeping your look simple doesn’t always mean you have to be super conservative. You can always add a touch of glitz and glamour to any easy going look. Some days I don’t feel like wearing tons of jewelry, so I opt for a little sparkle in my attire!

Some days a cute top, with a pop of color can do the trick! The simplest looks can often turn the most heads! No jewelry, just glammed face and nails! I even love doing this look with a simple white t-shirt and hat! (more…)

Camouflage Cutie!

IMG_1221

If you can believe this or not, there was a time in my life were I used to be afraid of doubling up bold prints… Yes, that’s right. You could not have paid me to put print on top of print. I would have preferred to just blend in, and not stand out with prints,  a chameleon of some sort… But now… I’m like, keep the colors coming! The bolder the better! I’ve actually had this ensemble since last year and never had an opportunity to wear it, so at the first sight of a beautiful spring day, I was ready to bust it out for a day in the city! Whether you’re going to a girls luncheon, shopping, church, or the tons of other places us girls-on-the-go frequent, it’s ok to add a pop of color in a room full of black and white!

Beauty Secrets I Live By: Fresh Face Glamour!

For every woman, there is that one thing that makes you feel like your look is complete. For some it is the right hairstyle, for others it’s a certain necklace or pair of earring. For me, it’s a perfect makeup application. I never feel completely glammed or ready for a great event or night out without my makeup done to perfection. Keeping a great BEAT is the key to perfection for me!

I think it started from my days as a pageant girl and a performer. As a singer, even if I didn’t have a lot of money for a great new outfit, I would always splurge to get my hair and makeup done for a dramatic over the top look! I also think that your face is the first thing people notice, so creating a flawless look can always leave a lasting impression!

Now, I am not a professional makeup artist, so my day to day makeup looks are generally very fresh faced, but I keep a great artist on deck! And I think every fashionista should. All Posh and Popular Dolls should have at least 4 makeup artists in your contact list that you can call for those special events in your life.

Between my engagement photos, bridal shower, (more…)

How I Made DIY Bridal Projects Fabulous!

0780-brown

Having expensive taste, does not always mean you need to break the bank! There are tons of things you can do at home with friends and family to help save money during your planning process. There are so many things I loved while I searched Etsy and some of my favorite bridal magazines, but as I started getting price quotes, I thought to myself, I can make that myself. And that is exactly what I did. I cut the majority of my costs in half, just by taking on my on DIY projects. I wanted to stay true to myself throughout the entire planning process, and I didn’t want to cut corners on the extremely important things, so I really had to evaluate what I knew I could do on my own, that wouldn’t compromise the essence of our classic glam wedding.

Escort Cards: My favorite project out of all of my DIY’s would have to be the mirrored escort cards! I knew I wanted a very classic and glamorous element, but I wanted something that I had never seen done before. I mean what’s more creative then a mirrored place card that guests can take home with them and use!?

The first thing I did was head to my favorite craft store here in Michigan to see if I could find mirrors the size of a business card in bulk. And I found exactly that! I was able to get 300 mirrors for less than $60. Keep in mind, most calligraphers charge $1.50-$2.50 per name they have to write, and that doesn’t include the mirror or paper they are writing on, so already I have saved anywhere from $500-$750 dollars. I did a bit of research, and communicated with some of my favorite calligraphers and found that paint pens are the best pens to use to write on mirrors. So to Michael’s I went! Paint pens cost about $10 for a pack of 2. I decided white pens would show better on the mirrors after trying out both gold and white. The pens I couldn’t use were returnable, so I took the pens back that didn’t work so well. Keep in mind the small pen size was the best, extra thin was too thin, and the medium was too large for the font size I was looking for.  Then the auditions began!! *insert giggle*  I auditioned all my friend with great handwriting, and my bestie Nina won! Whoop-whoop! I didn’t have to have a specific font type in mind, as much as I wanted very romantic cursive! That was my choice. I did what worked for my taste. Nina’s handwriting was perfect, and she was a trooper writing the names of everyone on my guest list for me (290 to be exact). I gave her a beautiful gift to show my gratitude. **Make sure you thank the people that are giving you their time! That is a must.**

My final touch was adding the mini crystal broaches to each mirror. They were super easy to apply, and they are stick on, so it wasn’t super messy to work with. I wanted to keep the broach element since my wedding invitations all had broaches of some kind on them. Making sure every element of your wedding has a central theme and is cohesive, creates the perfect ambiance for your big day!

Isn't this beautiful, I sure thought so!

Isn’t this beautiful, I sure thought so!

Table Numbers: I knew I wanted crystal table numbers, but didn’t wish to pay the hefty $680 it would have cost, for numbers 1-25, so I went an alternate route. The same store I got the mirrors for the escort cards, is the same store I purchased the round mirrors for the table numbers! And guess what, I only paid $20 for 30 round medium sized mirrors! I was able to find the stands for the mirrors at the Dollar store, you read correctly, the Dollar Store! So, the next challenge was to find the numbers. Etsy to the rescue. I found a store on Etsy, Couture Embellishment, look them up! They sold the crystal adhesive numbers I needed, and I paid $72 including shipping. (more…)

If you’re a black woman, I think after this past weekend with Beyoncé dropping her new single ‘Formation,’ you were even more proud to be a black woman. I know I was! Cause I SLAY, ALL DAY!

Now, while I don’t have hot sauce in my bag, because I just don’t enjoy it, I do however, work hard, and I own it… OKAY!  Ok ladies, now let’s get in formation and not only slay on a daily, but let’s continue to support one another, build each other up, and hold one another accountable in every aspect of our lives. As Bey says, prove to me that we have coordination, within our friendships, relationships, business partnerships, and of course our fashion choices!  We should live to SLAY, period. We have SO MUCH POWER!!! Let that power you hold speak through your fashion choices! You can say so much, without saying a word, just by how you present yourself to the world. I choose fierceness, boldness, and classiness… I’m in FORMATION…. Get in line with me ladies… #SWAG

The Dress: The “Meredith” Gown By Kenneth Pool

The Gown

A girl’s trip to New York in February 2015 changed my bridal journey! I remember trying on dresses, and not really having a “moment”, like I’d heard so many former brides say. Every dress I tried on just looked the same to me. I actually had become very disenchanted with the bridal gown search. So I took a girls trip with one of my best friends Sherie, and she decided to make some appointments for me to try on some gowns, that’s what good friends do, and I am so glad she did!  I had originally thought I found a dress and purchased it prior to the trip (that dress ended up becoming my second gown), so I wasn’t really in the mindset to find “The Dress”. I am so happy I was open to trying, because that trip completely helped bring my bridal vision to life.

We went to Amsale Bridal in New York City, and the rest is history! You talk about having a moment… We were in FULL OUT UGLY TEARS the moment I stepped into this gown! I truly felt like a princess, and I will forever remember that experience. This dress was made custom to fit my body. Designer Kenneth Pool does a great job of making sure each gown is custom fit for you on your special day. When my dress arrived from New York six months later, it literally fit like a glove. The Amsale Bridal team ensured my bridal journey was classic and memorable.

My advice: Having large groups of people with you may not always be the best idea. I had some of my favorite bridal moments when it was just me, and maybe one other person. To many opinions can become a headache. Stay true to who you are, and ALWAYS follow your first mind!

Ever thine.Ever mine.Ever ours.

I’m so happy I get to spend the rest of my life with my best friend… He and I…

I’m even more excited about planning our big day! Yes, I’m planning my own wedding! I plan to take you all with me on my journey as I go from Ms. Brown, to Mrs. Dobine, and I could not be more ecstatic about it! And trust me, no bridezillas over here…

We are planning a fall wedding, so that means tons of details to share with all of you throughout our journey… And don’t worry, I promise to keep the fashion coming!

I have dreamed of this time in my life for many moons, so I’m curious to see how I handle it all… But through it all I know I have my love right by my side to make this journey memorable and sweet…

I bet you’re wondering what type of bride I will be…

I guess you’d have to stay tuned to find out!!

Memo 027: Dainty Holiday Sparkle and Shine!

To: The Posh and Popular Dolls

From: Me

Date:  December 11, 2014

Subject: Holiday Style

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! That time of year when pulling out everything you own that shimmers and sparkles is 100% acceptable! I love the Holiday Season… The smell of freshly backed cookies and popcorn in the mall, the sound of children laughing, and the hustle and bustle of women getting all glamorous for the many holiday parties and events they’ve been invited to attend!  During this time of year, its so important to have looks that make you feel like the belle of the ball, I mean who can resist a great holiday party? Any opportunity I have to break out the tulle and the sequins I’m all for it! Who would have thought this former tomboy would turn out to be so girly? And leave it to the holiday to get this girly girl in full swing.

It’s all about the sparkle! Make sure your accessories do the talking this holiday season. The more flashy the better! This is the time of year you really don’t have to mute your look! Even if you’re a minimalist, adding a little sparkle to your ensemble will pull your entire holiday style together!

Oh… Did I forget to mention I got engaged last month? Yup!! I got engaged to the love of my life in November… Part of the reason why I have been a little preoccupied! So you can probably imagine, the only thing I really want to accessorize is my beautiful new ring! He did good, didn’t he!? So this holiday will be full of showing off a little sparkle for me, so a perfect manicure is going to be my biggest concern! You’ve gotta keep your nails on point when everyone will be asking to see your hand! So newly engaged dolls, remember to keep a standing nail appointment this season!

And no holiday look is complete without my favorite little clutch! Remember not to neglect those little clutches that hide in the back of your closet all year! This is the perfect time of year for them to make an appearance.

And how could I forget…? I am head over heels in love with this beautiful pair of Christian Louboutin glitter stilettos. These sparkly gems are my Christmas present to myself! I have pledged to only wear these beauties for 3 special occasions, New Years Eve with my love this year, my engagement party, and my bridal shower! They were purchased specifically for those upcoming special occasions in my life! Since this will be my first NYE as an engaged woman, I figured that was special indeed!

So remember this holiday to hug the ones you love extra tight, kiss your lovers a little longer, and bring on the sparkle. You deserve to shine darling! Shine in style!
