A Little Glitz and Tam!
Looking for a cute way to update any look, or cover up a “bad hair” day? The Tam has been my secret weapon for the last 15 years. What is a Tam you ask? Well, Wikipedia defines it as, ” a millinery design for women based on the Tam o’ shanter military cap and the beret. Sometimes it was also known as a tam cap, or the traditional term tam o’shanter might also be used. It became popular in the early 1920s when it followed the prevailing trends for closer-fitting hats that suited shorter hairstyles and for borrowing from men’s fashion; other traditional men’s hats that rose to popularity in women’s fashion during this period included the top hat and bowler.”
I simply define the Tam as, my signature look. I love a great sequins Tam! I have about ten colors, and I love them because they can instantly turn any look from drab to fab!
I always felt the Tam gave a Parisian feel to any look I put together. Being a lover of vintage styles, I immediately gravitated towards this accessory, and the price didn’t hurt either. I have been buying this accessory from my local beauty supply store for years, or stealing them from my grandmother’s closet! Everyone’s grandmother has a Tam! To me, it says class and style in the same breath.
And, what’s a great look without a fun shoe? You dolls know I always wait until my favorite department stores have their major shoe sales each season. Why pay full price? I snagged these beauties last summer preparing for my nuptials. I was on a gold, nude, and crystal kick majority of last year, and my shoe collection was enhanced because of it! And of course I was looking for a deal any and everywhere I could find one in 2015. And behold, look at what the shoe gods blessed me with! Super fab at a fraction of the cost! Who said Gucci, wasn’t affordable?
But I digress… Back to my favorite accessory! Another amazing thing about wearing a sequins Tam is that it dresses up my look instantaneously! Whether I am wearing jeans and a t-shirt, or a basic lace blouse and accordion pant, this fun embellishment can amplify the quality of any look. And, year round might I add! I am a believer in having items in my wardrobe that I can wear all year, and a Tam is a glorious embellishment to wear from winter to summer. ** For the winter, however, a beret is a great alternative**
So remember, if you’re having a bad hair day, or just need to spice up your look with a little sparkle, get yourself a Tam, girl!! You’ll thank me, I guarantee!
