Lourdes Marcelle’s Nursery Decor
The moment I found out we were expecting, I was so excited! The best part about becoming a mother for me has been the preparation… Preparing for this little human to come into our world and change it forever has been the most amazing feeling. I get excited finding beautiful things to make her space perfect. Even buying little outfits I can coordinate with my own, brings me so much happiness.
So you can imagine, the moment I found out I was pregnant, I immediately went into planning mode. The first thing I wanted to do was find out what we were having so I could begin designing and decorating the nursery. Naturally, the moment we found out we were having a girl, my brain and Pinterest board went into complete overdrive!
I knew I wanted her nursery to have a very clean, fresh, and feminine feel to it. I wanted white walls, and tons of pink accents. I am pretty consistent in my decor esthetic. I like very neutral and fresh wall colors with tons of unique and coordinating accent pieces. My go to colors, are typically, white, gray, and black for wall colors, so of course we had the nursery (formally my dressing room) painted white. I also knew I wanted floral accents, so I began the search for floral wall paper and decals on Etsy. It wasn’t long before I found the perfect floral wall decals, which have since become extremely popular on social media! I decided on wall decals because I wanted something I could remove and take with us, once we move into a new home. After the paint color and wall decals, came decor! Pottery Barn Kids, Instagram, and Pinterest was the main source of inspiration for me! I didn’t want to go overboard, simply because I wanted the nursery to grow, as she grew, so keeping things minimally chic in the beginning was extremely important to me.
Lourdes’ Nana and PawPaw gifted her, this beautiful crib and her dresser! I picked a dresser I knew she could keep even after we transition her to a big girl bed. I wanted furniture that would work for years to come. I also picked a number of different cribs, I wasn’t really married to any particular style because I liked so many! This is the one they picked for her, and I absolutely loved it, especially the tufted details on the outside of the crib. It fit the look of the nursery perfectly!
I literally allowed things to speak to me while building our registry and shopping for Lourdes’ nursery. I didn’t overthink it at all. I just knew animals, and floral prints was the direction I wanted to go. I literally shopped everywhere from Pottery Barn Kids, Amazon, At Home, and Buy Buy Baby, until I felt we had everything we needed that fit the esthetic I was going for!
My favorite project in the entire nursery has to be the curtains! I found these blush textured curtains while browsing through the store, At Home, but I wanted to do something to spice them up a bit. My cousin and I got the bright idea of putting flowers around them, but didn’t know how we would achieve the look, or even find the perfect flowers. Well, low and behold while shopping at Michael’s, my cousin sent me a picture of these flowers and said, “OMG They match the curtains!” I was shocked at how perfectly they matched, so we had to have them all! We then went on the hunt to every Michael’s in town until we were able to find 6 of them!
These wall shelves are from my very first apartment in college. My godmother Charnetta, bought them from Pier One, for me, on one of our many decor excursions! I’ve had them in storage for almost 10 years. I couldn’t wait to use them in our nursery. I think adding pieces that have sentimental value always make any room more significant, and helps to tell a story. In a small way it reminds me that my godmother is still with me, and still helping me decorate. That was one of our favorite things to do with one another. I miss her so much, so having small reminders of her in the nursery gives me a sense of peace.
Having a beautiful space to bring our baby girl home to was so important to me. My hope is that one day, when she is old enough to see and understand, she will see how loved she was before she was even born! Thank you for visiting our nursery!
